International Call for composers conDiT 2014
The creation platform conDIT.cheLA opens the international call for works, projects and residencies for composers and sound artists of any age to join the program in 2014.
Before applying please read carefully the regulation below, where you will the specifications and deadlines for each category
Categories:
Category 1. Electroacoustic or acousmatic piece for octophonic sound system (8.1). Category 2. Work for two male voices: tenor and baritone with electronic composition for 2-8 channels. Category 3. Works for Trumpet, Percussion (up to 2 percussionists) and extended media (objects, video, electronic). Category 4. Work for 9-12 instruments ensemble to be performed by EMC/Damus [Arg] Category 5. Work for video-music. To be composed by a single composer (composer-videographer) or a duet (+ video artist composer) for 2-4 instruments to choose between flute, violin, violoncello and piano. The information about content, assembly, drawings, color values and morphological parameters of the video must be integrated into the score as if it was an instrument. Two modes are defined: Category 6 . Work for 5-7 instruments to be performed by the ensemble TROPI [Arg] Works r 5-7 instruments to be performed by the ensemble TROPI [Arg] Category 7. Artistic residence project to create an experimental music project site-specific to be developed during August 2014. The composer will reside in cheLa for one (1) month.
art. 1 General Call.
exACTa Foundation through its platform of creation and concerts, conDIT.cheLA, announces the international call for composers to be part of the 2014 program.
art. 2 about the profile of the participants
Works by composers of any nationality will be accepted. No age limit.
art. 3 about the character and conditions of the postulated works
The piece status can be unpublished, premiered or to be released. It should be free from copyright or editor contracts at the closing date of this call.
art. 4 about the identity of the postulants
The application to the call is anonymous, under a pseudonym, avoiding any indication of the applicant’s identity, except for categories 3, 5 and 7 (The information required for these categories is detailed in the description of the art. 8).
Applicants should send their personal information in a separate file labeled under the chosen pseudonym including: a CV / short biography with the personal details and the pseudonym, and a list of the postulated works (1 per category).
art. 5 about the award to the selected works
The prize is AR $ 3000 (three thousand pesos) for each call or selected work. The premiere of the work will be according to the terms of each category, except for the category 7 [Residence for experimental musicians]
art. 6 about the quantity of pieces to be presented and selected
a. One (1) single work per each category of the call will be chosen.
b. Applicants may submit only one (1) work or project for each category.
art. 7 about the jury
a. The jury is formed by composers who are part of the conDiT platform, and one or two members of the ensembles and musicians involved.The selection will be made through a collegiate, pluralist committee. conDiT is formed by a rotating group of composers
b. The committee’s decision shall be final and conclusive, and it may declare
deserted any category and/or resolve any matter not covered by these regulations.
c. The committee’s decision will be communicated by email to the composer of the chosen piece. conDIT.cheLA will not return the submitted material.
art. 8 about the categories, deadlines, and jury
Category 1. Electroacoustic or acousmatic piece for octophonic sound system (8.1).
a. Applicants should send only one (1) stereo version piece in .WAV format.
b. After the jury’s decision, the organization will ask the selected composer to submit the final eight-channel (8.1) version of the piece.
c. Information about the spatial system used should be included. conDiT.chela uses an 8.1 regular octogonal system with its loudspeakers numbered clockwise.
d. The piece should have a minimum length of ten (10) minutes and a maximum of twenty (20) minutes.
Selection Committee members are the composers: José Rafael Subía Valdéz, Jonty Harrison, and Denis Smalley.
Call deadline: 15th January 2014.
Category 2. Work for two male voices: tenor and baritone with electronic composition for 2-8 channels.
a. Applicants must submit the score in PDF format and a stereo version of the electronic track in .wav format. This includes those pieces with real time processing.
b. Information about the spatial system used should be included. conDiT.chela uses an 8.1 regular octogonal system with its loudspeakers numbered clockwise.
c. The piece should have a minimum length of seven (7) minutes and a maximum of thirteen (13) minutes.

Category 3. Works for Trumpet, Percussion (up to 2 percussionists) and extended media (objects, video, electronic).
a. Applicants must submit a project proposal and a work in progress score (.PDF) and / or audio (. Wav) and / or video (.AVI)
b. The selected artist will have the option to reside in cheLA during the month of May 2014 for the assembly process.
c. The selected project must consider possible changes during the process related to the technical possibilities of conDiT.
d. The piece should have a minimum length of ten (10) minutes and a maximum of thirteen (20) minutes.

Category 4. Work for 9-12 instruments ensemble to be performed by EMC/Damus [Arg]
a. Applicants must submit a score in .PDF format.
b. The selected composer should send each instrument’s parts within 5 calendar days after the jury’s decision.
c. Organic: The composer can choose a minimum of nine (9) instruments and a maximum of twelve (12) from the following ones: Flute / Flute in G / Bass Flute / Piccolo, Oboe / English Horn, Clarinet, Saxophone Piccolo / Alto / Tenor / Baritone, Trumpet C / Bb, Piano, Percussion [bass drum, Vibraphone, 3 toms, accessories], 2 Violins, 1 Viola,1 Cello, 1 Double Bass.
d. The piece should have a minimum length of eight (8) minutes.

Category 5. Work for video-music. To be composed by a single composer (composer-videographer) or a duet (+ video artist composer) for 2-4 instruments to choose between flute, violin, violoncello and piano. The information about content, assembly, drawings, color values and morphological parameters of the video must be integrated into the score as if it was an instrument. Two modes are defined:
5.1 A closed work for 2-4 instruments (flute, violin, violoncello, piano) and edited single channel video.
a. Applicants must submit a score in .PDF format and a video in .AVI format.
b. The piece should have a minimum length of seven (7) minutes and a maximum of fifteen (15) minutes.
5.2 Open work formed by a cycle of micro-pieces for 2-4 instruments (flute, violin, violoncello and piano) and a single-channel video to be performed in conDiT for a week in October 2014.
a. Candidates should send a score preview of two micro-pieces (minimum) in .PDF format, including the video as an instrument.
b. The selected project must be completed along with the ensemble during a week in October 2014 (date to be confirmed) in conDiT, Buenos Aires.
c. The selected project must consider possible changes in the process related to the technical possibilities of conDiT.
d. Duration: seven (7) to fifteen (15) minutes.

Category 6 . Work for 5-7 instruments to be performed by the ensemble TROPI [Arg] Works r 5-7 instruments to be performed by the ensemble TROPI [Arg]
a. Applicants must submit a score in PDF format.
b. The selected composer should send the instrument’s parts within 5 calendar days after the jury’s decision.
c . Organic: They can choose a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of seven (7) instruments to choose from the following: Flute/Flute in G/Piccolo, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Piano, Guitar/Electric Guitar (multi effects pedal, volume pedal and expression/Banjo/Ukelele, Percussion: xylophone, glockenspiel,bass drum, gong, cymbals (crashes, rides, splash, hihat, suspended cymbals), toms, drums, bass drum, congas, bongos, timbaletas, Peruvian box, legüero hype and accessories (bells, templeblocks, woodblocks, vibraslap, shakers, guiro, tambourines, triangles, castanets).
d. The piece should have a minimum length of eight (8) minutes.

Category 7. Artistic residence project to create an experimental music project site-specific to be developed during August 2014. The composer will reside in cheLa for one (1) month.
a. Applicants must submit a project proposal in (maximum) single-sided A4 page, a brief biography / CV in PDF format and two links to references from previous jobs.

art. 11 about the implications of the call
The application for conDiT’s International Call for Works 2014 implies the acceptance without reservation of these terms and conditions. Any failure to meet these terms and conditions leads to disqualification of the work or project submitted.
